Breaking Barriers and Building Businesses: Celebrating the Homepreneurs Club on International Women's Day

blogs womensday Mar 08, 2023

As we mark International Women's Day, it is a time to celebrate the achievements of women who have overcome barriers to make significant contributions to society. Women entrepreneurs have been at the forefront of this movement, defying the odds and building successful businesses from the comfort of their homes. The Homepreneurs Club is a community of such women who have demonstrated remarkable success in their fields. Today we want to highlight the inspiring stories of five members of this club. Their journeys are a testament to the resilience, tenacity, and passion of women entrepreneurs, and we hope they inspire others to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities.

The History of Women’s Day

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th every year to recognise and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The idea of a day to celebrate women's achievements dates back to the early 1900s when women's rights activists in the United States and Europe organised rallies and protests to demand better working conditions, equal pay, and the right to vote.

The first National Women's Day was observed in the United States on February 28th, 1909. It was organised by the Socialist Party of America to honour the one-year anniversary of the garment workers' strike in New York City, where thousands of women marched for better working conditions and higher wages. The event was a success and soon became an annual tradition.

In 1910, the idea of an international day to celebrate women's achievements was proposed by Clara Zetkin, a German women's rights activist, at the International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen. The proposal was accepted, and the first International Women's Day was observed in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland on March 19th, 1911.

Since then, International Women's Day has been celebrated annually on March 8th, and it has grown to become a global movement that advocates for women's rights, equality, and empowerment. The day is celebrated with marches, rallies, conferences, and events that raise awareness about women's issues and celebrate the achievements of women around the world.

Homepreneur’s Club Celebrates Women’s Day

International Women's Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and their contributions to society. Women have come a long way, breaking down barriers and fighting for equality. One area where women have been making a significant impact is entrepreneurship. The rise of home-based businesses has allowed women to pursue their passions and build successful businesses from the comfort of their own homes. The Homepreneurs Club is a community of inspiring women who have started successful businesses from their homes, and today we want to celebrate and recognise five members of this club.

Tabinda Wajahat - Seasons 360 Boutique

Tabinda Wajahat is the owner and manager of Seasons 360 Boutique, a tailoring and clothing boutique located in Oud Metha, Dubai. She is a Chartered Accountant by profession and used to work in professional services before becoming a full-time mother for almost 5 years. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the boutique was put up for sale due to survival issues, her husband encouraged her to take over the business. Despite feeling nervous about taking on such a challenge, Tabinda decided to give it a shot and started building the business from scratch.

Seasons 360 Boutique offers tailoring services for ladies and their little princesses, providing eastern and western wear, as well as alterations services for men, women, and kids. They also do bulk orders for private designers and sell stitched and unstitched Pakistani and Indian ladies' wear, complemented by a collection of trendy and traditional jewellery. The boutique's strength lies in the quality stitching they provide at competitive prices and timely delivery. They also offer pick-and-drop services by courier for a nominal fee based on location.

Customers can visit Seasons 360 Boutique in-store or online to see their latest collections and work done for their valuable customers. Despite facing initial challenges, Tabinda has overcome them with the grace of the Almighty and has stabilised the business to a great extent. Her journey is a testament to the resilience and determination of women entrepreneurs who overcome obstacles and make a mark in their chosen fields.

Anupama Gokhale - Upcycle

Anupama Gokhale and Batul Tambawala are the dynamic duo behind Upcycle, a sustainable products brand that offers biodegradable, recycled, and upcycled solutions. An architect by profession, Anupama teamed up with her friend and management graduate, Batul, to address a problem they both faced while shopping for groceries. They were frustrated with the wastefulness of using plastic bags for fruits and vegetables that could not be reused once they got home.

Their shared passion for sustainability led them on a journey of research and development, resulting in the birth of Upcycle in 2018. Today, the brand has over 25 eco-friendly products, and its founders continue to push for a more sustainable future.

As with any start-up, their journey has had its fair share of challenges, from educating customers about the benefits of their products to securing repeat orders. However, their passion for what they do has made the journey worthwhile.

Anupama and Batul are proud of all they have accomplished with Upcycle and are excited to continue their journey with enthusiasm and dedication. Their story is a testament to the power of friendship and a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
